My name is Andy, I’m a lifelong woodworker and luthier. I’m focused on designing and building high quality products made from natural materials and durable environmentally friendly wood finishes. I enjoy combining the precision and repeatability of CNC machining with a classic, finished and assembled-by-hand approach.

About Hand-wing Habitat

 

A few years ago I moved to a house with two workshops, looking out over an old millpond on the Eramosa River. Working here I’m lucky to be surrounded by so much wildlife, including hundreds of bats. Learning everything I could about these endangered species, I found that many DIY bat boxes were not always safe or suitable for the bats. Guided by research I wanted to develop a bat house that could support these warm weather visitors with a better place to live, and match the beauty of this natural outdoor setting. After years of prototyping, building, and testing I have developed a design that I feel is both aesthetic and functional; the Hand-wing Habitat.
